El Alamo Winery is excited to announce that two of our favorite wines have won Best of Show at the 2021 New Mexico State Fair Wine Competition.

Our 2018 Tempranillo (also a family favorite) won the Premier Vinter's Gold Award, and our 2019 Baco Noir (our signature varietal) won the Premier Non-Vinifera Vinter’s Gold Award.

As if earning the top two awards in the competition wasn't enough, we're also excited to share that 5 of our other varietals also earned medals.

2021 has been a year that has exceeded our expectations as a new, boutique winery in the heart of Northern New Mexico. As the winemaker at El Alamo Winery, I am truly honored and humbled to have received many awards in the 2021 New Mexico State Fair Competition.

I must acknowledge and thank many people in my life who have contributed to my success as a new winemaker.

First and foremost, to my wife Laurie, my partner and inspiration who has been all-in for the entirety of our winemaking adventure. Thank you.

A special thanks to Josh Johnson, a local winemaker who was integral in developing the foundation on which the El Alamo Winery award-winning wines were built.

To Jerry Burd and Karl Johnson from Black Mesa Winery who shared with me insight into the chemistry and business of winemaking.

To Jeffery Martinez, who was here from the beginning to help with the maintenance and production of the vineyard before it even became El Alamo Winery.

To my wine crew today—Ron and Kris Quintana, Victor and Lorraine Salazar, Benny Martinez, and David Montoya—El Alamo Winery couldn’t produce the quality wines we’re making today without your gracious help. Your encouragement has continued to be a source of motivation for me.

To my daughters, Valerie, and Leah, thank you for your support and for being my biggest cheerleaders. A special thanks to Leah, my marketing genius who designed the El Alamo webpage and all my marketing materials.

And finally, to my friends and family, thank you for helping with harvesting, processing, and providing honest feedback on El Alamo wines.
